From the first call to the last piece of furniture being delivered, we know that we have the privilege of not just being invited into a person’s home, but into their story.
Dustin started serving at Kearney Moving during his undergrad days at UNK, and now works on a part-time basis for us. He is now a full-time pastor in Gothenburg, but enjoys hitting the road and meeting new people one day a week for us as an in-home surveyor. Dustin models a value that runs deep in Kearney Moving – the value of people and our desire to tailor our service to their unique stories and needs. One story in particular highlights this.
About 1 year ago, Dustin traveled about an hour away to survey the home of a potential customer. When he arrived, he introduced himself, and the woman who answered the door choked back tears as she welcomed him in. Before the survey began, Dustin took the time to ask if everything was OK. She went on to explain that, her husband had just decided to leave her and their two kids, and she was left alone to try to move across the state. She explained how disorienting the whole event had been… and she could tell that Dustin valued her as an individual. Before he left, Dustin decided to invite her and her kids to the church where he leads.
This church is a place where people of all backgrounds and stories are invited to be loved and cared for. The next Sunday, the woman and her two kids decided to attend The Crossing Fellowship in Gothenburg, Nebraska. She felt very welcome and attended for several weeks before it was time to move. In the meantime, Dustin found out that she wasn’t going to be able to afford to be professionally moved due to her current situation. So, Dustin got a group of people from The Crossing together to go to her home and load up her contents into a trailer. On top of that, they traveled to her destination, about half way across the state and unloaded her contents into her new apartment. This woman was blown away by the involvement of Dustin and this group of people and their willingness to step into her life and make an extremely stressful situation a little more manageable.
We are proud to have this heart to serve run through our company. It’s who we are whether we are wearing the Atlas Logo or not – from the top to the bottom we understand that each house is not a stop, it’s a story…a story that we have the opportunity to add a smile to.
