Don't hire unlicensed moving companies

Moving companies are required to be licensed locally and nationally.  Unfortunately, some companies choose not to follow the law.  These uninsured movers are called "rogue" movers.  Hiring a rogue mover can be very costly because they don't have insurance coverage and aren't following industry standards.
  • "Rogue" movers are easy to spot if you do a little homework and ask the right questions.  These companies are typically very small with only a few employees.  Most of their advertising is low quality.  Usually they can only serve smaller moves because they don't have the necessary equipment.  It's common for rogue movers to use rental trucks because they often don't own their own truck.
  • Ask the following questions to identify a rogue mover.  Do you have a Nebraska Public Service Commission number?  Do you have insurance coverage for my belongings?  If you are hiring them to move out of state, ask them if they have a DOT number.  If they can't answer these questions adequately, then stay away.
  • A rogue moving company without insurance can cost you far more than you save.  Typically these companies don't have the character to follow the law; this lack of care often translates to poor handling of your belongings.  If you hire a company that is not licensed and insured, you will have little recourse if they damage or steal your items.
